About our Owner

Since completing his apprenticeship in 1986 where he worked on both traditional commercial craft and modern yachts, David Burn has gone on to work and study in many facets of boatbuilding. Included in this are a post trade course in aluminium boatbuilding, various restoration projects and teaching apprentice shipwrights at TAFE in New South Wales.
David's most recent accomplishment is a bachelor degree in adult education and vocational training.
Over nearly three years he has been working for Phil and Margaret Heeny at Alkira Boatshed. But now they retiring, it is time for David to start out on his own. This is what led to the formation of Safe Haven Marine Centre Pty Ltd to carry on the fine tradition of quality and care people have come to look for. Among the major projects David has worked on and supervised are:
  • The restoration of the Swiss paddlesteamer “Stadt Luzern”
  • Replanking on “Our Swanen” (since renamed Southern Swan)
  • The complete restoration of Swedish yacht “Delfin”
  • Construction of the Carbon fibre trimaran “Sodebo”
  • $20 000 000 refit of Sir Richard Branson’s private catamaran, “Lady B”.

David have also lead work crews on repair and maintenance of Royal Australian Navy Minehunters at HMAS Waterhen.
